Initiated at Hebron Lutheran Church during 2013, Loaves & Fishes is a program that aims to reduce food insecurity for school-aged children in Madison County, VA. This initiative was founded in memorial to Mr. Rick Covington (1948-2013), husband of Hebron’s former pastor, Rev. Patricia Covington. Through the year-round Loaves & Fishes program, approximately 35-40 children are served weekly, each receiving approximately twelve food items. During the week, the children receive meals through the school system; The Loaves & Fishes program aims to provide food items for Saturdays and Sundays. Funded jointly by Hebron Lutheran Church, Madison Presbyterian Church, and Piedmont Episcopal Church, Loaves & Fishes meals are distributed by the Boys & Girls Club of Madison, VA during their after-school care program.
